97 Buick Lesabre 3.8 (new to the site)
Hey Guys and Gals,
I have a 97 Buick lesabre 3.8 with about 100,000 miles on it.For about 4 day's now my security is on but my car starts and runs with no problems. One think I do notice is when I tried the alarm test rolled the window down and pressed the lock button waited about 30 sec then I put my hand in the door and opened the door but the alarm didn't sound? so now I take it to the dealer and they said the chip in the key is fine they said it's the iginition lock but to be certain it will cost $110 to look at the car Thank but no Thanks( Bad vibe from the dealer in Hudson County).I also took it to my crackhead street guy and he said it's the security system and he can bypass it but the alarm still won't work.My question is based on what I said do you guys think it's the iginition lock or should I just get an aftermarket alarm I was told that will shut the security light off too. Thank sfor any advice in advanced.

sounds like you have a broken wire at the ignition lock cylinder. if you have an ohm meter test the resistence for the passlock system at the base of the column with the key in the lock cylinder. should be a 2 wire connector both wires are white i think and are wrapped in an orange covering it should read the same as the chip in the key give or take a few ohms
