Oh yeah I also forgot. The manual says you have a 3800 II engine. Beginning to think they fudged a century book from the entire w body platform. 3800 looks like it might be a regal engine bay shot.

I wish I had the 3800 haha

It definitely sounds like they based it off the Regal, which only had the 3800..

Apparently 99 they started migrating the air box and coolant overflow for the placement of the new 3100. I might just relocate my overflow anyways to free up that opening behind the headlight for a short ram. That fender gets wet too much for me to put a filter in it.

I wonder if the placement made any difference to the engine. The L82 was known for blowing the head gasket..maybe that old setup was a possible cause for that? Maybe it was solely for the new air box design..

Were they known to blow because of a flow or the fact all fluids were 100,000 mile fluids? I took the liberty to find the 1998 brochure and that's what they said. Same time they also called the 160 hp muscular. If the gaskets go i'm saving up for this..

Not sure if this will fit

Not a bad price for this either considering the flash tool for my Subaru is $600. Not sure what all is done for us. Apparently the trans changed with the newer 3100 as well.

If you're thinking about a new motor, try looking into the 3500 LX9. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to swap into your Century when it comes to electronics compatibility, but people have been putting them in the 3400 1999-2005 Grand Am's for a while without problems. I think with the 3500, it starts off with 200hp, and can easily be built up to 220-250 with very small mods.

As for that Malibu cold air intake, I'm not sure if it would fit or not. The Malibu is based on the N-Body, so its a bit different than the W. I was thinking that the intake for a 2000-2005 Impala might fit as they seem very similar to the Century.

I started another thread in engine section for a broken intake piece. Figured it would be better for general 3100 issue.

As for the coolant relocation, gotta drill new holes for that tank.

This is the snorkel I was talking about all this time in the beginning of the thread. Left side is what the air filter breathed out of. Car learned it so those blank areas are gone. Will try later and see if making the hole larger has anymore positive effects.

Not sure why I just miss your posts. I did some looking and the LX9 is going to be fun and the LZ9 is an electrical adventure. I'm finding plenty of 3800 n/a and f/i local with trans and computers if I ever get the courage to go that route. Would be a nice sleeper project. Going to look into the impala intake and see where it goes.

After thinking about it..I can't see why the L67 3800 supercharged wouldn't fit. After all, the Century and Regal are 90% the same.. Now that would be a sleeper.
